Frequently Asked Questions

  • While we land on the glacier the majority of the time, we consider weather conditions at every turn and if it appears that it may be problematic to land/take off after landing, our pilots will make a judgment call in real time. After all, our primary purpose is to get everyone back safely from where we took off.

  • If you or your party needs to cancel, Fly Denali requires a 72-hour notice to refund. With this notice, Fly Denali offers a full refund minus a $25 cancellation fee.

    If you or your party cancels within the 72 hour period prior to your tour time, the tour is non-refundable.

    If Fly Denali decides to cancel a tour due to weather or safety concerns, we will offer our passengers the opportunity to reschedule to a later date, or time or accept a full refund. Further, due to the ever-changing weather over the Denali National Park and Alaska Range, flights are not determined “canceled” until 1-hour prior to departure time.

  • Due to strict regulations, bags of any kind are not permitted on our aircraft.

    These bags include: Purses, Camera bags and tripods, Backpacks, and Diaper Bags.

    While we do not allow backpacks, purses, or bags of any kind on our airplanes, we recommend close toed shoes, long pants and sleeves, a light jacket, a camera, a pair of sunglasses, and sunscreen if you have sensitive skin.

  • We recommend that our passengers wear long layers. Heavy coats and snow boots aren’t typically necessary, but dress to your discretion. We ask that our passengers wear simple close-toed shoes as we will provide Gore-tex glacier over-boots that will fit over any type of sneaker.

    The temperatures on the glacier will be relatively similar to what they are at the airport given the low altitude levels at which both are located.

  • While rideshares such as Uber and taxi’s are not available in the Denali area, we offer complimentary transportation for our passengers in the Denali and Healy area. Pick-up times vary by location, so please give us at least a 24-hour notice if you will need our shuttle service.

  • Yes, and we recommend it too. We have ample parking and even some space for oversized vehicles such as RV’s but you will need to call and confirm with us before arriving to make sure we can accommodate your oversized vehicle as that space is limited and will be available on a first come first served basis.

  • You will need to arrive 30 minutes prior to your departure time for checking, getting your glacier boots, and your pre-flight debriefing. Please do not type our physical address into your GPS! We can provide you with simple directions to our airport, but GPS navigation always leads our passengers astray.

  • The National Parks Service requires that all passengers landing on the glacier have a National Park Pass. A $15 per person entrance fee for the Denali Park glacier landing is due at the time of your flight unless you already have a valid Interagency Park Pass or possess a valid 7-day Denali Park pass. Children 15 and under are not required to pay an entrance fee. If you do no have this when you arrive, we will have instructions on purchasing in our office.

  • While Mt. Denali is 40 miles in diameter and we circumnavigate it on most flights, the Alaska Range is know for making it’s own weather so what we see on flight to flight may vary but in most cases we see some portions if not most of Denali.

  • While reservations are not mandatory, we do highly recommend them as flights do regularly sell out. However, if there are open seats at the time of any flight, we are happy to fill those with happy customers.

  • Since we have multiple flights departing throughout the day, everyday… we will reschedule you on the next departure available. If you will not be available for the next departure or subsequent departure thereafter, then we will refund your fare.

  • All seating is predetermined by the weight and balance of the aircraft for ease of flying throughout the adventure. You may request a certain position but ultimately it is up to the Load Planner and pilot flying your aircraft to determine the best possible scenario for everyones safety.

  • All seats are window seats and your pilot works to get all seats aboard the aircraft similar views so there is no “best seat” as they are all the best seat.

  • From our experience, we recommend a wider angle zoom lens, like a 24-70mm. While long zoom lenses are not needed because we will be experiencing more landscape than say wildlife per se.

    Also, we don NOT recommend bringing multiple lenses as they are tough too change in flight and become cumbersome while in flight since you will not be able to bring all of your gear or tripods.

  • While our aircraft is equipped with our Denali Sized Sick Sacks (aka trash bag), we rarely use them since our highly trained pilots work hard to provide the most comfortable flight in the Denali area.

    If you are prone to car sickness, have vertigo, or other health conditions, please let our facilities manager know when booking your flight so that we can make the pilots aware of your condition. In most case, your regularly chosen motion sickness provisions will suffice as a great supplementary precaution for your flight.

  • The sooner the better as flight routinely fill up quick, however, you can book all the way up to 1 hour before departure time through Fly Denali’s main office.

  • No. We overfly more of Denali Nation Park that any other operator in the area. That means you see more, do more, and get more bang for your buck when you choose to fly with us.

  • We don’t. We have a general idea of what we are going to do but since Denali creates it’s own weather and it’s know to change quickly, our highly trained pilots work hard to get you the best views all while making sure you are as comfortable as possible. We pride ourselves on providing the best possible experience every time we go up.

    And since we are based at the park entrance, we have more options to see wildlife, the Park Road and where you have been on the Bus Tours as well as see areas like Wonder Lake, the McCandless Bus site, braided rivers, hills and valley of the spine of the non-snow capped peaks of the Alaska Range.

    And since we do not fly predetermined routes, each flight is tailored to you. That way, if we are not able to see certain features of a normal flight, then we have other options to interject to make up for what nature has covered up that day.

  • Wear your rain jacket to the airport and leave it there as we are going to be covering a vast expanse of the 6M acre park and we rarely cancel due to rain as it’s always raining in Alaska. We may encounter some in flight but rain is rarely a deterrent for us. as it usually rains in “pockets” and not for long in one particular area. And hey, you cant see amazing alaskan rainbows without rain some we welcome a few drops here and there.

    Our pilots are constantly monitoring advanced aviation weather apps as we as talking over radio to one another while on flights to gauge weather for upcoming flights.

    If you decide to cancel your flight based on your weather predictions then you will not receive a refund.
